Privacy Policy

Information we collect

We collect the information needed to provide your account and wallpapers:

• Account information: your Sign in with Apple account identifier and, when Apple provides them, your name and email address, plus authentication tokens needed to keep you signed in and disconnect your Apple authorization if you delete your account.
• Personalization and creation data: interests or other text you provide, wallpaper requests and prompts, generated titles and descriptions, and generated wallpaper images.
• Subscription information: subscription status, expiration date, credit balance, and App Store transaction identifiers. Apple processes your payment details; Backdrop does not receive your payment card number.
• App and service information: app version, timezone, generation status, model names, and timestamps needed to operate and troubleshoot the Services. Our hosting and security providers may also process standard request information such as an IP address and request logs.
• Product activity: a random app-install identifier and a limited set of events such as opening onboarding, signing in, viewing the subscription offer, creating, saving, sharing, favoriting, or rating a wallpaper. Each event includes the source screen and app version and may be linked to your account when you are signed in. We do not collect free-form analytics payloads or an advertising identifier.
• Support information: your email address and the content of messages you choose to send us.
• Advertising measurement information: Meta App Events may receive app activation, purchase, subscription, trial, and selected product-funnel events, along with device, app, and network information, SDK-generated or device identifiers, and diagnostic or crash information, to attribute downloads and measure Backdrop advertising campaigns. Backdrop disables advertising-identifier collection and does not request access to Apple's advertising identifier.

Backdrop may request permission to add generated wallpapers to your photo library. You may also choose a specific photo to use as a visual reference. Apple's photo picker gives Backdrop access only to the item you select. The selected image is normalized on your device, sent to our service and OpenAI for that generation request, and is not stored by Backdrop after the request. We do not upload or collect the other photos in your library. We do not request precise location, contacts, or a device advertising identifier.

How we use information

We use information to:

• create, personalize, deliver, and save wallpapers;
• authenticate your account and keep it secure;
• verify subscriptions, manage credits, and restore purchases;
• operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the Services;
• measure and improve advertising for Backdrop;
• respond to support requests; and
• prevent abuse and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information or display third-party ads in the Services. We use limited app activity for attribution and measurement of advertising campaigns for Backdrop.

AI generation and service providers

Backdrop uses OpenRouter and OpenAI to provide AI-assisted text and image generation. To fulfill a generation request, we may send those providers the request or prompt, a selected visual reference, relevant interests or personalization text, and technical instructions. Do not include information in your interests or prompts that you do not want processed for generation.

We also use service providers for cloud hosting, image storage, security, and application delivery. Apple provides Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, and device automation features. These providers process information on our behalf or under their own terms only as needed to provide their services.

Meta Platforms provides advertising attribution and measurement. Information processed through Meta App Events is handled according to Meta's terms and privacy policy. We configure the Meta SDK not to collect Apple's advertising identifier.

When we share information

We may share information:

• with the service providers and advertising-measurement providers described above;
• when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, Backdrop, or others;
• as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate safeguards; or
• with your direction or consent.

Data retention and deletion

We retain account and generation information while your account is active and as reasonably necessary to provide the Services. You can delete your account in Backdrop by opening Account, choosing Delete Account, and confirming. When deletion completes, we remove your active account profile, generated wallpaper records and images, prompts, and related generation records.

Information already processed by a service provider may be retained according to that provider's policies and applicable legal requirements. You may contact us at [email protected] for help with a privacy or deletion request.

First-party product events linked to your account are deleted with your account. Events recorded while you were signed out are not attached to an account and may remain with the random app-install identifier and the limited event fields described above. We also periodically delete older wallpaper records and images when they are no longer needed, including older wallpapers for inactive accounts.

Deleting your Backdrop account does not cancel an App Store subscription. You can cancel or manage it in your Apple ID subscription settings. Limited information may remain temporarily in backups or be retained when required for legal, security, fraud prevention, or accounting purposes.

Security and international processing

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate, subject to applicable safeguards.

Children

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Your privacy choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You may exercise applicable rights by deleting your account in the app or contacting us. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request, and you may have the right to appeal our response or contact your local data protection authority.

California residents may request information about the categories of personal information we collect, use, and disclose. Depending on how you use Backdrop, those categories may include identifiers, commercial information, internet or electronic activity, and preferences or inferences used for wallpaper personalization. We do not sell personal information. We may share limited device and product-activity information with Meta to attribute and measure advertising campaigns for Backdrop, as described above.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our Services or legal requirements change. We will update the date above and provide any additional notice required by law.
